Jane's Story

If the Women's Resilience Circle had not come last year, I would be dead.

Jane had lost hope.

In fact, if there is something she constantly says, it is this:

"If the Women's Resilience Circle had not come last year, I would be dead."

Jane came to us in January deeply heartbroken.

She had just walked away from a 17-year abusive marriage and moved back to her parents' home. At least, she thought, being back home with the two people who had welcomed her back would be the beginning of her healing.

Before the year had even ended, both her parents died in a grisly road accident.

The very people she thought would help her rebuild her life were suddenly gone.

Jane was left carrying questions, grief and a pain she could not explain.

For one year, we walked alongside Jane through trauma counseling, spiritual discipleship, sisterhood, home visits and business development.

When Jane joined us in January, she rarely spoke.

She dreaded the breaks because she only wanted to be alone with her thoughts.

She had lost a lot of weight and was physically weak.

She later shared that every time we opened the Bible during our morning devotions, she would quietly wonder which God we were actually talking about.

She had stopped going to church.

She could not bear to see her mother's empty seat in church.

She had stopped praying.

All she wanted was to be left alone.

We still remember the day she shared her story with the group.

Halfway through, she became too weak to continue standing and someone held her up.

That session was filled with tears, a little laughter and long moments of silence.

Then, slowly...something began to change.

About two months into the program, we noticed Jane beginning to eat.

Then she started laughing and joined into conversations.

She slowly became present again.

After five months of counseling, discipleship and sisterhood, Jane rededicated her life to Christ.

She went back to church and even began leading our morning devotions.

Jane had leadership gifts.

Trauma had silenced them.

Today, after graduating from the Women's Resilience Circle, Jane now volunteers to lead the alumni circle of the eight mothers from our 2025 cohort. They continue meeting every month for prayer, merry-go-round and to find out how each woman is doing.

Jane has five children of her own.

She is also helping care for children from her late sister while continuing to support members of her extended family.

Twelve children directly benefited from the journey Jane began last year.
